Back in 1992, nestled within the bustling halls of Bogyoke Market in Myanmar, a small jewellery shop named Nine Special Gems & Jewellery was born. The shop was founded by a husband and wife, driven by their passion for exquisite gemstones and their desire to share the beauty of Myanmar's treasures with the world. Little did they know that their humble beginnings would pave the way for a remarkable journey.
During this period, Myanmar was transitioning towards democracy, and the previously restricted gem export industry began to flourish. With the newfound opportunities, Nine Special became one of the leading gem exporters in the country. Their dedication to sourcing rare and exceptional gemstones, such as Jadeite Jade, Burmese Ruby, Spinel, and Sapphire, set them apart from the rest.
The shop expanded its presence, establishing five more stores across Myanmar. Their reputation for providing quality gemstones at competitive prices attracted customers from far and wide, ensuring its prominence in the gem industry.
In 2016, their son, Wai (pronounced Wei), now grown and deeply connected to the family business, decided to embark on a new chapter. With a vision to expand their horizons and introduce their unique collection to the international audience, Wai made the bold decision to establish a shop named MAYS GEMS in Melbourne, Australia. The move brought MAYS' legacy and expertise to a new land, while keeping their deep-rooted connection to Myanmar alive.
Settling into their new location, MAYS found a warm welcome from gem enthusiasts and connoisseurs in Melbourne. The shop's reputation for sourcing hard-to-find gemstones from Myanmar remained their pride and joy. The craftsmanship and authenticity of each piece of jewellery they offered was a testament to their sincere dedication to the craft.
Amidst their journey, MAYS faced challenges, as any business does, but they persevered with unwavering grit. Their commitment to providing customers with an honest and genuine experience became the foundation of their success.
